![]() Miss California Carrie Prejean "I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised." One simple response. From a young beauty queen contestant. But what to do about a response that was not to the questioner's liking? According to judge Perez Hilton ""Miss California lost not because she doesn't believe in gay marriage. She lost because she is a dumb bitch." And thus begins the maelstrom that is the celebrity death match between Miss USA contestant Miss California, Carrie Prejean, and Miss USA judge and openly gay celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. Setting aside the embarrassing post-contest reaction from judge Hilton, would he really have been satisfied if Prejean had responded by saying that she thinks the States should determine their own gay marriage laws? Would "I'm a state's rights kinda girl" have been an acceptable response, Perez, from a girl whose state's residents just voted against gay marriage? (It's true Hollywood! Despite your loud mouths you're still just a small blemish on the face of California.) Prejean's detractors did not end with Hilton. Miss California organizer Keith Lewis stated after the pageant "As co-director of the Miss California USA, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss California believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman. I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit. I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone and religious beliefs have no politics in the Miss California family." That's fine Keith, but now you are discriminating against Carrie Prejean! And by the way, it wasn't Prejean that brought politics into it. Hilton did. But wait - there's more! Co-Miss California USA director Shanna Moakler twittered after the event "This is why we have judges at Miss USA, so we find the girl to rep us ALL." She went on to say in her MySpace blog "She [Prejean] lost the crown because she wasn't able to convey compassion for ALL the people that, as MISS USA, she would be representing. And if YOU like it or not, gays and lesbians make up this country as well. THIS is why we have judges, so they can find the RIGHT woman who obtains these qualities." So if Prejean were to state that she believes in gay marriage then wouldn't she no longer be representing those of us that don't? [Editor's Comment: Did anyone bother to ask the Miss USA winner, Miss North Carolina (what is her name?), what she thinks about gay marriage?] Today's Christians know the story of the Apostle Peter denying Jesus three times before the crucifixion. Thanks to Peter, Carrie Prejean remembered that lesson when she had to choose between pleasing Perez Hilton or God. Perez Hilton or God. It's a no-brainer. Carrie Prejean and others who are against gay marriage (myself included) are not so because we hate gay people or are afraid that gay marriage will negatively impact our own marriages. It is because of our Christian values. The Bible teaches us that homosexual relationships are wrong. Period. If Christians acquiesce and say "OK gays, go ahead and get married" then we are denying the Word of God. Wouldn't our being forced to do so infringe on our religious rights as guaranteed by the Constitution? It would. But now celebrities the likes of Alicia Silverstone, Holly Madison and Janeane Garofalo are attacking not just Carrie Prejean but also all Americans who agree with her. Those in favor of gay marriage call for continued "dialogue" in order to demand that we change our belief systems to match theirs. Thing is, we respect their opinion but they also have to respect ours. Once again, Janeane Garofalo or God? ![]() Blogger Perez Hilton Just say "No" to gay marriage! Well that's the first thing that President Obama and I actually agree on. So if Obama is against gay marriage and stated it "very clearly" during his campaign (whenever he wants to state something affirmatively he always begins with "Let me be VERY CLEAR!" Have you noticed that?) why isn't he the target of liberal celebrities, gays and Perez Hilton? The double standard is not left unnoticed by those of us with memory retention capabilities. Prediction? "Carrie" will skyrocket as one of the most popular names for girls in the United States.
