Miss California Carrie Prejean
Miss California Carrie Prejean
“Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?”  One simple question. From a simple judge.

"I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."  One simple response. From a young beauty queen contestant.

But what to do about a response that was not to the questioner's liking? According to judge Perez Hilton ""Miss California lost not because she doesn't believe in gay marriage. She lost because she is a dumb bitch."

And thus begins the maelstrom that is the celebrity death match between Miss USA contestant Miss California, Carrie Prejean, and Miss USA judge and openly gay celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

Setting aside the embarrassing post-contest reaction from judge Hilton, would he really have been satisfied if Prejean had responded by saying that she thinks the States should determine their own gay marriage laws? Would "I'm a state's rights kinda girl" have been an acceptable response, Perez, from a girl whose state's residents just voted against gay marriage? (It's true Hollywood! Despite your loud mouths you're still just a small blemish on the face of California.)

Prejean's detractors did not end with Hilton. Miss California organizer Keith Lewis stated after the pageant "As co-director of the Miss California USA, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss California believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman. I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit. I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone and religious beliefs have no politics in the Miss California family." That's fine Keith, but now you are discriminating against Carrie Prejean! And by the way, it wasn't Prejean that brought politics into it. Hilton did.

But wait - there's more!

Co-Miss California USA director Shanna Moakler twittered after the event "This is why we have judges at Miss USA, so we find the girl to rep us ALL." She went on to say in her MySpace blog "She [Prejean] lost the crown because she wasn't able to convey compassion for ALL the people that, as MISS USA, she would be representing. And if YOU like it or not, gays and lesbians make up this country as well. THIS is why we have judges, so they can find the RIGHT woman who obtains these qualities." So if Prejean were to state that she believes in gay marriage then wouldn't she no longer be representing those of us that don't?

[Editor's Comment: Did anyone bother to ask the Miss USA winner, Miss North Carolina (what is her name?), what she thinks about gay marriage?]

Using Moakler's logic Prejean would actually be the ideal winner. Californians voted in favor of Proposition 8 which amended the State Constitution stating that marriage is limited to solely between a man and a woman. Additionally, the majority of Americans continue to believe the same. Carrie Prejean wasn't exactly in the minority when she answered Hilton's question!

Taking it one step further, if the minority opinion is the most important, then abortion should be outlawed, right?

Anyway, did Carrie Prejean say that she would ban or prevent gay marriage if given the opportunity? No. She simply stated that she did not believe in it based on her moral upbringing as a Christian. She was asked her opinion and she gave it. She's not a legislator, she's not an activist. She's just a girl trying to look her best in a bikini and evening gown.

Today's Christians know the story of the Apostle Peter denying Jesus three times before the crucifixion. Thanks to Peter, Carrie Prejean remembered that lesson when she had to choose between pleasing Perez Hilton or God. Perez Hilton or God. It's a no-brainer.

Carrie Prejean and others who are against gay marriage (myself included) are not so because we hate gay people or are afraid that gay marriage will negatively impact our own marriages. It is because of our Christian values. The Bible teaches us that homosexual relationships are wrong. Period. If Christians acquiesce and say "OK gays, go ahead and get married" then we are denying the Word of God. Wouldn't our being forced to do so infringe on our religious rights as guaranteed by the Constitution? It would.

But now celebrities the likes of Alicia Silverstone, Holly Madison and Janeane Garofalo are attacking not just Carrie Prejean but also all Americans who agree with her. Those in favor of gay marriage call for continued "dialogue" in order to demand that we change our belief systems to match theirs.  Thing is, we respect their opinion but they also have to respect ours. Once again, Janeane Garofalo or God?

What Say You, President Obama?

Just say "No" to gay marriage! Well that's the first thing that President Obama and I actually agree on. So if Obama is against gay marriage and stated it "very clearly" during his campaign (whenever he wants to state something affirmatively he always begins with "Let me be VERY CLEAR!" Have you noticed that?) why isn't he the target of liberal celebrities, gays and Perez Hilton? The double standard is not left unnoticed by those of us with memory retention capabilities.

It used to be that in America you could state your opinion freely without retribution. At least this was back in the day when even public schools taught American history including the Constitution(!) in schools. Just like Joe Wurzelbacher (AKA "Joe the Plumber") Carrie Prejean's star will rise. If she had never been asked "the" question and even if she had won the Miss USA pageant, we would have all forgotten her name already. Instead, with the anti-Christian left hurling insults at her, Prejean will become a powerhouse celebrity for the Christian right.

Prediction? "Carrie" will skyrocket as one of the most popular names for girls in the United States.

I remember when the Miss USA pageant was a big deal. This year it solidified itself as a joke. When you have a production including musical guests who seem  utterly out of place for a beauty pageant and you have a judge that is barely qualified to grade a kindergartner's art project and who clearly, ahem, doesn't appreciate females, who can take this stuff seriously? Plus, back in the day, a young lady contestant would never be asked a question on national TV regarding activities in the bedroom.

Believe it or not, when it's all said and done I can actually see an advantage to giving gays the right marry! Gays have pushed for "equal marriage rights" using the argument that without marriage they can not sign up for health benefits together, make life or death medical decisions for one another and, my personal favorite, "enjoy the marriage tax break." I always wondered where that last concept came from as those of us who are married know all to well the sad fact that with marriage comes higher taxes. Check out those tax table columns in your 1040 manuals.

So I say let's put gays on a level playing field with the rest of us who have been paying higher taxes than them 'lo these many years. Let's marry 'em and then tax 'em. Tax the hell out of 'em. Maybe then and only then will the rest of us see any sort of tax relief from the marriage penalty when the gays rise up and march on Washington against this unfair taxation discrimination.

After all, Congress only listens to minorities.

And that's the word of the day. - WOTDO

First of all, I cannot stand Perez Hilton. What rights has he earned to any
level of importance? Second, I cannot stand any of the syndicated pagents. They
are fake fake fake. Why do we need a woman to represent us? And what exactly
does she do for me as an American? I already have a Congressman,a few Senators
and a President. I even have a Lawyer. It has been made clear that Perez Hilton
was jealous that he was not up there to represent Miss California. He also used
the outlet for his own publicity stunt, typical Hollywood. I guarantee, Miss
California's answer spoke for more than half of the other contestants. Enough of
me wasting energy on the anti. I am pro-living happily ever after whether you
are married or not. Look and Oprah and Gayle. They are not married and they seem
happy.

The new Miss U.S.A (North Carolina) was on FoxNews this morning, and her
response to the question was the political correct answer. Granted, she has had
time to think about it, so you can't take her answer now.
